A new organic garden is born in Póvoa: less chemicals, more flavour and respect for the land(en translation)

A project with deep roots

Póvoa has just welcomed a new project that promises to revolutionise the way the local community relates to food: a community organic garden, dedicated to growing chemical-free food using sustainable methods and with total respect for the earth’s natural cycle.

The project was born out of the will of a group of farmers and conscientious citizens who wanted to create a space where agriculture was synonymous with health, flavour and sustainability.

More flavour, less chemicals

By opting for organic methods, the garden dispenses with pesticides and artificial fertilisers, using compost, natural fertilisers and crop rotation to maintain soil fertility.

“We want every lettuce, tomato or herb to have a real flavour, just as it did decades ago,” explains Ana Silva, one of the project’s coordinators.

Visitors and future consumers will be able to feel the difference not only in the taste, but also in the aroma, texture and freshness of the harvested produce

A space for learning and community

More than just food production, the garden will also have an educational role. Schools, families and community groups will be invited to take part in gardening workshops, composting workshops and guided tours that show the whole cycle of organic farming.

  • Monthly workshops on planting and harvesting.

  • Composting and organic waste managementsessions.

  • Social spaces for picnics and outdoor activities.

The idea is for the garden to function as a meeting point where knowledge, experiences and values of respect for the environment are shared.
